Introduced in 2010, the Office 365 brand originally denoted a subscription-based software as a service platform catering to the enterprise market. It hosted services like Exchange, SharePoint, and Lync Server, along with the web-based version of Office. However, on October 13, 2022, Microsoft disclosed a shift from the Microsoft Office brand to consolidating all products under the Microsoft 365 umbrella. This transition commenced with Office.com in November 2022 and will extend to Office mobile apps by January 2023. Notably, the Microsoft Office brand will persist for older products, particularly subscription products that still carry the “Office 365” designation. Following the release of Office 2013, Microsoft actively promoted this service as the primary distribution model for the Office suite.
