Parrot OS 7.1 Released with Linux kernel 6.17

Parrot OS 7.1 Released with Key Fixes and New Features
Parrot OS, the Debian-based Linux distribution built for ethical hackers and cybersecurity professionals, has released version 7.1, just under two months after the major 7.0 launch. This marks the first maintenance update in the 7.x series.
One of the most important fixes in this release resolves GRUB issues that prevented certain laptops from booting properly. Parrot OS 7.1 ships with GRUB 2.14, updated DKMS drivers, and the Linux kernel 6.17, improving overall stability and hardware compatibility.
Limited i386 support has also been reinstated. While full 32-bit support has not returned, essential 32-bit dependencies—required for applications like Steam—are once again available.
Updated Security & Pentesting Tools
Parrot 7.1 delivers updates to numerous security and penetration testing tools, including:
- Metasploit 6.4.111
- Burp Suite 2025.11.6
- Airgeddon 11.61
- Maltego 4.11.1
- Subfinder 2.12.0
- Feroxbuster 2.13
- TruffleHog 3.92.5
- Rizin 0.8.2
- Rizin Cutter 2.4.1
- SecLists 2025.3

Expanded ISO Options
The project has broadened its ISO offerings. In addition to the standard editions, Parrot 7.1 now provides community editions featuring MATE, LXQt, and Enlightenment desktop environments.
Introducing MCPwn
A standout addition in this release is MCPwn, a tool that leverages the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to allow large language models to execute cybersecurity tools such as nmap, sqlmap, and gobuster directly on the system.
To enhance security, commands are executed inside Docker containers, helping isolate activity and protect the host system. MCPwn is currently available for testing and is expected to be added to the APT repositories soon.
Meanwhile, the companion tool Rocket has been updated to version 1.5, featuring a refreshed user interface and expanded tool support, with further improvements planned.
Raspberry Pi & Desktop Changes
For Raspberry Pi users, KDE remains available, but MATE returns as the default desktop in version 7.1. The team is also exploring the addition of LXQt to improve performance on lower-end devices.
Editions & Installation
Parrot OS continues to be offered in two primary desktop editions:
- Security Edition – Includes a comprehensive suite of preinstalled penetration testing and cybersecurity tools tailored for professionals and researchers.
- Home Edition – Designed for everyday use, privacy, and development, offering a streamlined system without the full security toolkit (additional tools can be installed manually).
The team recommends installing Parrot 7.1 using the new ISO image. Existing users can upgrade automatically using parrot-updater or parrot-upgrade. Note that systems upgrading from Parrot 6.4 will retain the MATE desktop unless manually changed.
