The Document Foundation has rolled out LibreOffice 26.2.2, marking the second maintenance release in the 26.2 series that debuted earlier this month. The update is now available for users across Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms.

This release primarily focuses on improving document compatibility and file handling. A number of issues related to DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX formats have been addressed, including problems with bookmarks, content controls, chart exports, pivot tables, and formula processing. Additionally, fixes have been applied to resolve cases where documents edited in LibreOffice were not properly accepted when reopened in Microsoft Office.

Stability has also been a key area of improvement. The update resolves several crashes and freezing issues, such as application hangs when opening certain ODT files, instability triggered by Java-based components, and rendering-related crashes involving Skia on X11 environments.

In terms of layout and rendering, multiple corrections have been introduced. These include fixes for misaligned text, missing slide previews, broken bullet formatting dialogs, and issues with EMF and EMF+ image rendering. PDF export has also been refined, with better compliance for formats like PDF/A-1 and PDF/UA-2.

User interface and workflow enhancements are another highlight of this update. Improvements address inconsistent cursor behavior after editing comments, unexpected toolbar visibility during presentations, and incorrect orientation in print preview when switching between printers.

LibreOffice 26.2.2 is now ready for download. However, The Document Foundation continues to recommend the 25.8.x series for production environments, as it represents the more stable branch. Meanwhile, the 26.2 line remains targeted at users who want access to the latest features and ongoing improvements.

For those interested in a detailed list of changes, the release notes for RC1 and RC2 versions provide a complete overview.

Alongside this release, LibreOffice 25.8.6 has also been published as a maintenance update for the stable branch.

Looking ahead, LibreOffice 26.2.3 is expected to arrive in late April. The 26.2 series will receive support until November 30, 2026, after which it will reach end-of-life. The official announcement is here.
