Almost a month after releasing the 25.12.1 apps collection, the KDE team has delivered the second maintenance update in the series: KDE Gear 25.12.2. This release primarily focuses on bug fixes, stability improvements, and overall polish across a wide range of KDE applications.

Several updates address essential desktop tools. The Dolphin file manager receives multiple enhancements aimed at improving reliability and usability. These include fixes to prevent crashes when dragging view headers, proper cleanup of temporary files after loading default settings, and refinements to sorting labels and font dialog behavior.

KDE Connect resolves issues related to file transfers, improves packet size management, fine-tunes LAN discovery, and reduces unnecessary log output when Bluetooth functionality is disabled.

In KAlarm, hangs triggered by daylight saving time calculations and calendar loading during startup have been fixed. Meanwhile, Akonadi components address crashes caused by empty payloads and outdated HTML parsing, and Kontact corrects an issue where configuration modules could be unintentionally removed when closing dialogs.

Media and creative tools see substantial maintenance work. The Kdenlive video editor includes a broad set of fixes covering crash scenarios, audio thumbnail processing, monitor behavior, effects handling, platform-specific issues on Windows and macOS, and various user interface glitches encountered when opening projects or settings.

The Elisa music player improves layout responsiveness and image loading reliability, while the Kasts podcast application resolves startup problems, improves handling of streaming URLs, and fixes a segmentation fault that could occur when exiting from the system tray.

Additional applications updated in this release include:

  • Kate Text Editor: Resolves shortcut conflicts, fixes Windows build problems, and improves document highlighting behavior.
  • Okular Document Viewer: Corrects issues with signature error conversion.
  • NeoChat Messaging Client: Receives multiple stability fixes and user interface improvements.
  • Itinerary Travel Assistant and the KItinerary library: Enhance barcode support and improve travel data extraction and processing.
  • KPMCore disk and partition management library: Fixes a division-by-zero crash related to partition alignment logic.

Beyond application-level fixes, KDE Gear 25.12.2 improves compatibility with newer dependencies such as Poppler and ZXing, updates documentation paths, resolves continuous integration issues, and addresses minor bugs across applications including KClock, Konqueror, KWave, Umbrello, and many others.

For additional details, refer to the official announcement. Source tarballs for KDE Gear 25.12.2 are available on the project’s source information page, while the complete changelog provides a comprehensive overview of all changes.

Most KDE Gear 25.12.2 applications will soon be available via Flathub and the Snap Store, with rolling-release Linux distributions expected to ship the update through their repositories in the coming days and weeks.
