Komodo, a self-hosted platform for building and deploying containers across multiple servers—similar to Portainer but enhanced with CI capabilities and strong GitHub integration—has officially released version 2.0.

The standout feature in this release is Docker Swarm support. Komodo can now manage entire Swarm clusters, including nodes, services, stacks, configurations, and secrets, significantly expanding its orchestration capabilities.

Another major improvement is the introduction of outbound Periphery support. With this, the Periphery service can initiate connections to Komodo Core, removing the need for inbound connectivity in certain deployment scenarios.

Authentication has also been overhauled. Komodo 2.0 replaces passkeys with PKI-based authentication between Core and Periphery, using automatically generated key pairs with built-in rotation. Additionally, onboarding keys have been introduced to simplify server enrollment by allowing reusable credentials during setup.

User authentication has been further enhanced with built-in two-factor authentication (TOTP) for username and password logins. The update also introduces multi-login linking, enabling users to connect multiple authentication methods—such as local accounts, OIDC, and GitHub—to a single profile.

On the interface side, Komodo 2.0 brings a redesigned UI with improved contrast and updated core components. Terminal functionality has also been upgraded, including enhancements to the terminal dashboard, improvements to the km ssh tool, and refinements to action scripting.

For developers, the platform now provides complete OpenAPI documentation, along with interactive API exploration features.

Finally, it’s important to note a breaking change in container distribution. Docker images are now released only with version-specific :2 tags, and the :latest tag has been deprecated.

Komodo 2.0 is now available, along with an upgrade guide for users migrating from previous versions. For full details, refer to the official changelog.
