Rocky Linux Becomes a KDE Patron

The KDE desktop environment continues to gain strong momentum in the open-source world. After announcing record-breaking donations last year, the project has now welcomed another notable supporter from the FOSS ecosystem.
The Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation (RESF)—the nonprofit organization responsible for overseeing the Rocky Linux project—has officially joined KDE’s patron program. Rocky Linux, widely known as a community-driven enterprise Linux distribution compatible with RHEL, now contributes financially to KDE’s development through KDE e.V.
Brian Clemens, co-founder and vice president of RESF, emphasized the importance of collaboration in the open-source community. According to him, long-term sustainability in open source depends on projects helping and supporting each other. Because many Rocky Linux users enjoy the KDE desktop through its dedicated spin, supporting KDE was a natural decision for the organization.
With this move, Rocky Linux joins a group of organizations that help fund KDE’s continued progress. Other supporters in the patron program include companies such as Canonical, Google, SUSE, Slimbook, The Qt Company, and TUXEDO Computers.
The KDE patron program is designed for individuals or organizations that want to support the project’s growth. Participants contribute at least €5,000 to KDE e.V., the nonprofit entity that represents and manages KDE’s development and community activities.
Funding from patrons helps maintain KDE’s infrastructure, support development work, and organize community initiatives that push the Linux desktop forward.
With continued backing from organizations across the open-source ecosystem, the future of KDE Plasma and the broader KDE project looks stronger than ever.
