System76 has rolled out COSMIC Desktop 1.0.7, a small but meaningful maintenance update that continues the project’s steady cadence of improvements and bug fixes across the new desktop environment.

One of the most noticeable enhancements lands in the Workspaces Overview, where users can now define an “action on typing.” This allows any typed input to instantly trigger either the launcher or the app library, configurable directly in Settings.

Stability fixes are also a focus in this release. Full-screening windows should no longer cause unexpected issues, and a crash tied to lingering tiling placeholders has been resolved. Multi-monitor setups benefit from improved cursor-follow-focus behavior, while keyboard shortcuts once again work correctly for non-Latin layouts.

Applet behavior has been refined as well. Adjusting volume will no longer switch the active audio route unintentionally, and any applet opening cosmic-settings now correctly focuses the settings window.

Within Settings, the update improves how volume and mute states are handled by considering only active audio routes. WPA3 networks now appear more reliably, and automatic theme switching once again functions properly after suspend events or system time changes. Language reordering now updates the system language via AccountsService, and importing themes reveals a reset option in the Appearance panel — fixes that also extend to cosmic-settings-daemon.

The Files app sees several usability tweaks: it now respects the Path key in desktop entries, clears the type-to-select buffer when switching locations, and introduces Move to and Copy to options in the Edit menu. A new toggle lets users disable the Recents feature, while an updated compio-driver resolves musl build issues.

Elsewhere, the COSMIC Store now caches Explore results to disk, allowing near-instant startup after the first launch. The Terminal app also gains tab drag-and-drop support, making session management more intuitive.

Packages for COSMIC 1.0.7 are expected to appear soon in rolling distributions such as Arch Linux, openSUSE Tumbleweed, and CachyOS, while users of Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS can already install the update.
