The KDE Plasma team has published Plasma 6.5.6, the last maintenance update in the 6.5 series. This release effectively closes the lifecycle of the branch that first appeared in October 2025, delivering a collection of final bug fixes and stability improvements.

A significant portion of the update focuses on KWin. Improvements include better handling of the color pipeline when the Night Light feature is enabled, more stable screencast sessions during GPU resets, and corrections to pointer constraint behavior. The update also refines how display outputs are configured and resolves certain hardware cursor problems on GPUs that lack modifier support. Window initialization and attention-state handling have also been fine-tuned.

Other core Plasma components received attention as well. The KDE Discover tool now handles cancelled backend transactions more reliably. Updates to the task manager widget add protections against external input that could affect progress indicators, while the panel configuration interface has been improved so it retains focus correctly during adjustments.

Screen-related utilities also see small fixes. KScreen and its underlying libkscreen library include improvements for display size synchronization and cleaner configuration management on Wayland systems. The screen locker component resolves an issue where successful logins could leave pending PAM tasks unfinished.

Several additional adjustments appear across the Plasma ecosystem. Powerdevil now recreates brightness controllers correctly when display labels change, device notification handling in Plasma Workspace fixes a dangling reference issue, and Spectacle now remembers the previously used “Save As” location between sessions.

Smaller fixes also reach components like Plasma Firewall, Plasma Dialer, parts of the Plasma Mobile interface, the Plasma Welcome application, and the Oxygen cursor theme.

With these updates, Plasma 6.5.6 concludes the maintenance cycle for the 6.5 series. Users interested in a full breakdown of changes can review the official release notes and detailed changelog from the KDE project.
