The KDE Project has rolled out Plasma 6.6.3, the third maintenance update in the 6.6 release series. This update primarily focuses on bug fixes and overall system stability, with a strong emphasis on improvements to KWin, KDE’s window manager and Wayland compositor.

Several critical issues in KWin have been resolved, including crashes related to the zoom effect and problems with display output handling. Enhancements have also been made to input responsiveness, screencasting reliability, and display configuration, along with better compatibility for certain monitor modes and DDC/CI-related hardware quirks.

The KDE Discover application also receives usability improvements. These fixes address inconsistencies in category navigation, refresh behavior, and icon presentation, resulting in a smoother experience when browsing and managing applications.

On the desktop side, KDE Plasma Desktop introduces several refinements. Task Manager tooltips are now more accurately positioned, launcher interactions have been improved, and issues affecting panel and sidebar configurations have been corrected. Widgets and applets benefit from better tooltip formatting, including multi-line support, along with more consistent animations.

Further enhancements include improved system tray behavior on Wayland, ensuring popups appear in the correct position. Notifications, clipboard functionality, and logout processes have also been polished for better reliability. In System Settings, font previews now render properly, and various edge cases involving widget resizing and panel layouts have been fixed.

Power management through Powerdevil has been updated to more accurately reflect battery state changes, while previous regressions affecting battery indicators have been resolved. Additionally, Spectacle has been improved with fixes for crashes, visual glitches, and more precise region selection.

Beyond the desktop, this release also brings updates to Plasma Mobile, virtual keyboard functionality, system monitoring tools, and underlying libraries.

The next update in the series, Plasma 6.6.4, is expected to arrive on April 7, continuing the cycle of incremental improvements.
