System76 Unveils Thelio Mira: Ryzen 9000 Power, RTX 5090 Support & Advanced Cooling

System76 has introduced an updated version of its high-performance desktop, the Thelio Mira, featuring a redesigned chassis aimed at delivering better sustained performance, enhanced cooling efficiency, and improved ease of maintenance.
This latest iteration expands on System76’s in-house desktop lineup with a refreshed industrial design and support for AMD’s newest Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge” processors. Available CPU configurations range from the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X up to the high-end AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, catering to a wide range of performance needs.
Consistent with System76’s approach, the Thelio Mira comes preinstalled with Linux. Buyers can choose between Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS, developed by the company itself, or Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
Under the hood, the system is built on the AMD X870 platform and utilizes the ASRock X870 Pro RS WiFi motherboard, combined with System76’s custom firmware. It also includes a dedicated Thelio Io daughterboard that runs open-source firmware, further aligning with the company’s open-hardware philosophy.
For graphics, the desktop supports a single discrete GPU via a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. It has been validated with high-end options such as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT. The case is designed to accommodate large graphics cards, supporting recommended lengths up to 348 mm, with maximum clearance reaching 358 mm. Power supply requirements vary between 750W and 1000W depending on the selected configuration.
Memory support goes up to 192GB of DDR5 in a dual-channel setup, with speeds influenced by module size. Storage flexibility includes three M.2 NVMe slots spanning Gen5, Gen4, and Gen3 standards, along with two additional 2.5-inch SATA bays. It’s worth noting that populating the second M.2 slot disables the secondary PCIe expansion slot.
Expansion capabilities include one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for graphics and an additional PCIe 4.0 x4 slot for other add-in cards. Networking features consist of 2.5Gb Ethernet alongside Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.2 support.
Connectivity options are extensive, featuring USB4 Type-C, multiple USB-A ports, and convenient front-facing I/O. Audio is handled by a Realtek ALC1220 codec, offering support for 7.1-channel output.

The updated chassis design replaces earlier wood accents with a tempered glass front and a steel mesh side panel to improve airflow. A vertically integrated control strip houses the power button and front I/O ports. These design changes contribute to improved thermals, enabling up to 19% better sustained CPU performance and reducing operating temperatures by approximately 13.5°C, aided by liquid cooling.
Serviceability has also been prioritized. The system includes magnetic panels for quick access, a modular internal structure, and a removable dust filter, making upgrades and maintenance more convenient over time.
Designed for demanding workloads, the new Thelio Mira is well-suited for applications such as AI and machine learning, data processing, scientific research, and software development, while also being capable of handling high-end gaming setups.
The system is engineered and assembled in-house by System76 at its Denver facility, with comprehensive documentation and service guides available to assist users with upgrades and repairs.
