COSMIC Desktop Gets a Native System Monitor App

System76 has expanded its COSMIC desktop ecosystem by introducing a native System Monitor application, providing users with an integrated way to track system performance and manage running processes.

Designed specifically for the COSMIC Desktop, the application combines hardware resource monitoring with process management in a single, easy-to-use interface. Built using System76’s Rust-powered libcosmic toolkit, it adopts the same visual style as the rest of the desktop environment, including consistent fonts, color themes, navigation, and layout.

The application features a unified dashboard where users can monitor applications, active processes, CPU usage, memory consumption, GPU performance, disk activity, and network traffic without switching between multiple utilities.

At the top of the interface, a process table displays active tasks along with their CPU, memory, GPU, VRAM, and disk usage. Below it, resource panels provide real-time graphs for CPU, memory, storage, and network activity, while also offering shortcuts to more detailed performance pages.

These detailed sections include historical charts and highlight the processes consuming the most system resources, making it easier to identify performance bottlenecks. The tool also allows users to inspect running applications and terminate or force-close unresponsive processes when necessary.

COSMIC System Monitor is now available through the COSMIC Store by searching for “COSMIC System Monitor.” It is also included in the latest COSMIC Desktop 1.1 release. Users interested in learning more can refer to System76’s official announcement.
