KDE Plasma 6.7 to Add Desktop Switching in Overview

Following the recent release of KDE Plasma 6.6, KDE developers have shifted their focus to version 6.7, introducing a range of usability and workflow enhancements.
One notable improvement targets virtual desktop navigation. In 6.7, users will be able to switch desktops directly from the Overview effect by scrolling or by pressing the Page Up and Page Down keys, making multitasking smoother and more intuitive.
On Wayland systems, KDE Plasma 6.7 will optionally synchronize the stylus pointer with the mouse or touchpad pointer, improving consistency for tablet users. Printing is also receiving attention: a new dedicated print queue viewer will replace the legacy dialog. The updated tool is designed to remain simple for single-printer setups while offering robust management of multiple local and network printers.
Screen recording functionality is becoming more flexible as well. Users will be able to exclude specific windows from recordings through permanent window rules. Meanwhile, the screenshot utility Spectacle gains a new --release-capture command-line option, enabling the “accept on click-and-release” behavior to be triggered programmatically.
System monitoring tools are being refined for greater consistency. The System Monitor application and its widgets will now respect the user’s preferred binary unit setting, ensuring values such as GB or GiB are displayed uniformly throughout the interface.
Display scaling logic is also improving. When the automatically calculated scale factor is very close to standard values like 100%, 200%, or 300%, Plasma 6.7 will round to those exact figures for cleaner results.
Additional interface adjustments planned for this release include:
- The Color Picker widget will show clearer placeholder and tooltip text before its first use.
- The system will consistently refer to firmware setup tools as “UEFI Firmware Settings.”
- The “Terminate this frozen window” dialog will display a spinner while attempting to close an unresponsive application.
- The Widget Explorer sidebar will open on the screen where the pointer is currently located, rather than defaulting to the leftmost display.
As development continues, more refinements are expected before the final release. Further updates will be shared as they become available.
