The Document Foundation has announced the release of LibreOffice 25.8.7, marking the final maintenance update for the 25.8 series. Support for this branch will officially end on June 12, 2026, after which no further security patches will be provided. Users are therefore encouraged to migrate to the LibreOffice 26.2.x series to continue receiving updates and support.
This release focuses mainly on small bug fixes and security-related maintenance. Among the resolved issues is a crash that could occur when inserting a hyperlink while the system clipboard was empty, along with another crash triggered when closing LibreOffice instances launched through the SDK.
LibreOffice Impress now fixes a problem where printing presentation notes could consume all available system memory. The update also corrects the initial word count display shown after opening a document and resolves a chart-related issue involving 1904 null-date handling. In addition, LibreOffice Calc gains support for the Saudi Riyal currency symbol as a small enhancement.
The update further improves DOCX interoperability by addressing a formula import problem caused by incorrect escaping of the [ character. Another fix resolves unusual compression behavior affecting full-width brackets when Japanese or Kana punctuation compression settings are enabled.
LibreOffice 25.8.7 also refreshes several bundled libraries and dependencies, including Expat, FreeType, libpng, libtiff, NSS, OpenSSL, Python, lxml, and curl, helping maintain overall software stability and security.
Additional information about the fixes included in this release can be found in the RC1, RC2, and RC3 release notes, while the official announcement provides a broader overview of the update.
LibreOffice 25.8.7 is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux through the official download channels. Linux users can also expect the update to arrive through their distribution repositories once maintainers package the new release.
