Nitrux 6.0 Released With Linux Kernel 6.19

The Nitrux project has introduced Nitrux 6.0, the newest version of its Debian-based Linux distribution. The operating system follows an immutable design philosophy, avoids the use of systemd, and primarily distributes applications through AppImage packages. The release continues to use Hyprland as the default desktop environment.
This version is powered by the Linux 6.19 kernel, compiled with performance-oriented patches from the CachyOS project. The graphical stack and desktop components have also been refreshed, including an updated Hyprland 0.53.3 environment along with related utilities such as Hyprlock, Hyprpaper, Hypridle, and Hyprsysteminfo.
Several core software components have also been upgraded. These include Mesa 25.3.3 for graphics support, Flatpak 1.16.2, Python 3.13.9, NetworkManager 1.54.3, WirePlumber 0.5.13, Calamares 3.3.14, and Distrobox 1.8.2. Systems running NVIDIA hardware will receive the updated 590.48.01 driver.
Nitrux 6.0 also brings new Wayland-focused utilities developed specifically for the distribution. One of them is QMLGreet, a new login manager built using C++ and MauiKit. It replaces the earlier QtGreet implementation and integrates with greetd as well as wlroots-based compositors.
Another new component is NudgeOSD, an on-screen display system written with QML that provides visual notifications and keyboard shortcut feedback for Wayland sessions.
A notable addition in this release is VxM, a virtualization orchestration tool created by the Nitrux developers. It focuses on high-performance virtualization and supports technologies such as VFIO PCI passthrough and IOMMU isolation, allowing virtual machines to access dedicated hardware like GPUs directly for improved performance.
The update also introduces a Rescue Mode integrated into the boot process. This feature allows users to recover their system from existing snapshots without requiring external recovery tools, and the boot configuration is rebuilt automatically after restoration.
Various refinements have been applied to the desktop environment as well. These include adjustments to Hyprland configuration rules and animations, visual improvements to Waybar styling and fonts, and updated settings for SwayNC and Hyprlock. System-level optimizations have also been implemented, including improved NVMe power management to reduce startup delays and enhancements to initramfs handling.
At the same time, several older components have been removed from the system. The QtGreet login interface and the shell-based version of the Nitrux Update Tool System are no longer included, and the NetworkManager ifupdown dispatch script has also been discontinued.
Nitrux 6.0 is available as two separate installation images: one designed for NVIDIA graphics hardware and another intended for AMD and Intel GPUs. The development team recommends performing a fresh installation with the new ISO, although systems currently running Nitrux 5.1 can upgrade using the built-in update utility.
