Notepad Next, a cross-platform text and source code editor inspired by Notepad++ and aimed at delivering a similar experience beyond Windows, has released version 0.14.
The highlight of this update is a security fix for CVE-2026-42214, an arbitrary code execution vulnerability linked to Lua injection through filename extension handling. The release also enhances UTF-8 BOM support, improving how the editor processes files containing a byte order mark.

From a usability perspective, version 0.14 introduces line-sorting features and the ability to recall previous searches. It also preserves cursor position when a file is reloaded, reducing disruption when files are modified externally.

The Find and Replace dialog has been refined with improved sizing behavior. Additionally, core components Scintilla and Lexilla—responsible for text processing, syntax highlighting, and lexer functionality—have been upgraded to newer versions.
For developers and package maintainers, the project now adopts a CMake-based build system, ensuring more consistent builds across different platforms. The update also brings refreshed translations via Crowdin.
macOS users benefit from several platform-specific fixes, including a corrected app bundle and an updated dock icon. The application’s .ico file has also been improved with the addition of a 256-pixel layer.

Notepad Next 0.14 is now available via the project’s GitHub releases page. Linux users can install it easily through Flatpak on Flathub or by downloading the AppImage version.
