ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.4 Removes Community Connection Limit

ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.4 has officially been released, bringing major licensing, deployment, and feature improvements to the open-source office suite designed for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms, PDFs, and diagram editing.

One of the most significant changes in this version is the removal of the 20 simultaneous connection limit from the open-source Community Edition. Alongside that, the development team has simplified the platform’s architecture by removing code minification, merging services into a single-process design, and eliminating dependencies on RabbitMQ and external databases, making self-hosted deployments easier to manage.

The project’s licensing terms have also been updated. ONLYOFFICE continues to use the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, but now includes additional requirements related to attribution, copyright notices, and identification of modified builds. Trademark usage rights are still handled separately under the project’s trademark policy.

Feature-wise, ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.4 introduces support for horizontal lines inside the Document Editor. Users can now insert separators directly from the Home tab through the Borders menu, making document structuring more convenient.

Forms functionality has also been improved. The release adds built-in recipient assignment and filling-status tracking directly within the editors. Signature handling is smarter as well, with signature fields automatically remembering and reusing the last selected signature image.

The Spreadsheet Editor gains a new Dark Document mode. When the overall interface is using the dark theme, users can optionally switch the spreadsheet workspace itself to a dark background through the View tab.

For presentations, the update adds 25 new design themes and 20 additional slide transition effects. Themes can be accessed from the Design tab, while transitions are available under the Transitions section. Web editors now also include a dedicated Chart Design tab for easier chart customization.

Mobile users receive more control over saving behavior. ONLYOFFICE now introduces a manual Save button for Android, iOS, and the mobile web version. Users can disable Autosave entirely and manually save their work when needed. Similar updates for desktop and mobile applications are expected in upcoming releases.

Enterprise users also gain new SharePoint-related WOPI configuration options inside the Admin Panel. These additions include synchronization with the required WOPI Zone and optional support for Authorization headers.

Developers are not left out either. ONLYOFFICE Docs 9.4 expands its API and Doc Builder functionality with new methods for forms management, custom plugins, paragraph formatting, and advanced table handling.

The ONLYOFFICE Desktop suite remains available across multiple platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux using DEB, RPM, Flatpak, Snap, and AppImage packages. Mobile versions are also available for Android and iOS through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
