PipeWire 1.6.7 has been released as the latest maintenance update to the 1.6 series, fixing audio regressions affecting silent ports, ALSA synchronization, scheduler behavior, and several smaller stability issues.
The main fix addresses a race condition where some ports could remain silent after a sample rate change. This issue can affect audio routing after switching sample rates, leaving parts of the audio graph inactive until the affected stream or device restarts.
PipeWire 1.6.7 also fixes sync regressions between ALSA cards in some cases. The problem was related to a scheduler regression where some driver nodes did not run correctly, causing synchronization issues.
Another ALSA-related fix concerns period_size calculations. For non-power-of-two periods, PipeWire sometimes rounded the value down to a power of two, creating a mismatch between the requested and configured period size. That regression has now been corrected.
The update also fixes a potential crash when removing a card due to incorrect ALSA API usage, as PipeWire now emits a route parameter update when card properties change, ensuring JACK port updates are reflected correctly.
On the module side, PipeWire 1.6.7 reduces the D-Bus timeout for the real-time portal due to locking issues. Portal-based real-time handling has also been disabled for PipeWire and the PulseAudio server, since these are normally not sandboxed and can use RTKit directly.
Finally, the combine-stream module received a fix for a potential incorrect delay. Miscellaneous changes include safer handling so as to avoid working with an uninitialized spa_dict.
For additional details, see the changelog.
PipeWire 1.6.7 is available now from the project’s GitLab release page and source archive. Linux distributions are expected to ship it through their regular update channels.
