KDE Plasma 6.6.2 Released With Dozens of Bug Fixes
21views

The KDE development team has rolled out KDE Plasma 6.6.2, the second maintenance update in the Plasma 6.6 desktop environment series. This release focuses primarily on improving system stability, fixing bugs, and refining several desktop components.

While the update does not introduce major new features, it delivers numerous improvements across KWin, Discover, NetworkManager, system libraries, and core desktop tools, helping ensure a smoother and more reliable experience for Linux users.

Improvements to KWin Window Manager

A large portion of the update targets KWin, the window manager and compositor used by KDE Plasma.

Several issues in the DRM backend have been resolved, addressing crashes and improving display handling in scenarios involving mirrored monitors and placeholder outputs. Additional fixes improve window decoration input regions and adjust how 3D LUT processing behaves.

For users running Plasma on X11 sessions, restoring a window from fullscreen back to a maximized state now works correctly.

Remote Desktop Stability Enhancements

The KRdp remote desktop component has also received important stability improvements.

Developers resolved multiple technical issues, including:

  • Thread-safety problems in VideoStream
  • A potential deadlock within the RdpConnection destructor
  • A crash affecting PortalSession

The update also refines compatibility with Windows clients, particularly when they re-advertise GFX capabilities during remote sessions. Scroll wheel behavior has also been corrected for certain high-resolution input scenarios.

KDE Discover and Flatpak Interface Improvements

The KDE Discover software center benefits from several usability updates.

Some key improvements include:

  • Corrected arrow direction in “See more” links
  • Better tracking of application update states
  • Improved layout and alignment in the Flatpak permissions interface

These small adjustments enhance clarity and make software management more intuitive.

Launcher and Desktop UI Refinements

The update also introduces several visual and usability improvements across Plasma’s user interface.

Enhancements include:

  • Improved hover behavior in Kicker and Kickoff launchers
  • Better scrollbar sizing and search visuals
  • Folder View now uses the system accent color for selection highlights

Clipboard security has also been improved so that sensitive information is removed when clearing clipboard history.

Meanwhile, on-screen display (OSD) components continue transitioning away from deprecated APIs to ensure better long-term compatibility.

NetworkManager and Login Manager Fixes

Networking behavior has been refined in the Plasma NetworkManager applet. The applet now properly recognizes bridges and VLAN interfaces as active connections when displaying status icons.

The login manager also receives improvements to session sorting and resolves several configuration-related issues.

Updates to Core Libraries and Tools

Several Plasma libraries and utilities have also been updated:

  • libkscreen now synchronizes physical display sizes more accurately
  • libplasma generates warnings when widgets attempt to use unsupported sizes
  • The Oxygen theme restores proper minimized window indicators and correct scrollbar dimensions

Additional Fixes in Spectacle and System Settings

The Spectacle screenshot tool resolves crashes related to KDE Connect exports and improves cleanup of certain Qt menu objects.

In System Settings, navigation has been enhanced so that subcategory pages open correctly when users access them from search results.

Availability

KDE Plasma 6.6.2 is now available through distribution repositories and rolling-release Linux distributions.

The KDE team plans to release the next maintenance update, Plasma 6.6.3, on March 17, continuing the regular update cycle for the Plasma 6.6 series.
