Rescuezilla 2.6.2 Download
64-bit Live ISO – Disk Imaging & Recovery
Back up, restore and clone hard drives with Rescuezilla, an easy-to-use graphical interface for disk imaging. Boot the official live environment from USB to manage system recovery without installing the tool onto your existing operating system.
rescuezilla-2.6.2-64bit.noble.iso is not listed in the official v2.6.2 release. The project’s v2.6.2 release notes state that the older Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) build was temporarily disabled. The official default 2.6.2 64-bit image is rescuezilla-2.6.2-64bit.resolute.iso, based on Ubuntu 26.04. Use the official release page to review the available assets; this page does not present the unavailable Noble file as downloadable.About Rescuezilla 2.6.2
Rescuezilla is a graphical disk imaging and recovery application designed to make backup, restore and cloning tasks more approachable. It runs as a bootable live environment, allowing you to start it from USB without installing it onto the computer’s internal drive.
It is often described as a Clonezilla GUI. Rescuezilla creates images compatible with Clonezilla and can work with a range of disk-image formats supported by its underlying tools, including common virtual disk formats such as VDI, VMDK, QCOW2 and VHDx.
Use a bootable environment to image disks, restore backups, clone drives and inspect supported image files.
Key Features
- Graphical interface for disk backup and restore
- Clone disks and partitions
- Compatibility with Clonezilla image formats
- Explore supported disk image files
- Support for virtual disk formats through qemu-nbd
- Bootable live USB workflow
- Multilingual user interface
- Open-source project with public release notes
System Requirements
Rescuezilla is a live operating system, so requirements depend on the hardware, disk size and operations being performed. Check the current project documentation for exact compatibility information.
| Architecture | 64-bit x86 (AMD64) |
| Boot media | USB flash drive or supported bootable media |
| Firmware | UEFI or legacy BIOS, depending on system and image |
| Memory | Enough RAM to run the live desktop and selected operations |
| Storage | Separate destination storage for backup images |
| Network | Optional for local disk operations; useful for network storage |
The v2.6.2 release notes do not specify one universal minimum RAM or disk-space figure. Confirm requirements for your hardware and intended workload.
What’s New in Version 2.6.2?
- Introduces an Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute)-based 64-bit build for newer hardware support.
- Includes a backfill build based on Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing).
- Updates Partclone to version 0.3.47.
- Fixes a blank error window that could appear after cloning, including after successful operations, and interfere with shutdown or restart requests.
- Fixes a graphical shutdown menu issue in the Plucky variant.
- Temporarily disables the older Noble, Jammy and Plucky 64-bit builds in this release.
- Temporarily disables the 32-bit Intel i386 build.
Release details are based on the official v2.6.2 announcement dated May 16, 2026.
Available 2.6.2 Download Variants
The official v2.6.2 release provides different base-system variants. Select a build according to your hardware and the project’s currently published release assets.
| Resolute | Ubuntu 26.04 LTS-based 64-bit image; the official default 2.6.2 download. |
| Questing | Ubuntu 25.10-based backfill build. |
| Noble | Ubuntu 24.04-based image; temporarily disabled in the v2.6.2 release. |
| Plucky / Jammy | Older 64-bit builds; temporarily disabled in v2.6.2. |
Each base image can include different kernel and video-driver versions. If the normal boot produces a blank screen, the project recommends trying Graphical Fallback Mode from the boot menu after selecting a language, or trying an alternative ISO variant when available.
How to Download and Create a Rescuezilla Bootable USB
- Open the official Rescuezilla v2.6.2 release page.
- Expand the release assets and select the appropriate 64-bit ISO. The official default image filename is
rescuezilla-2.6.2-64bit.resolute.iso. - Download the checksum information from the release assets, when provided, and verify the downloaded file before use.
- Insert a USB flash drive. Back up its contents because writing the ISO will erase the USB drive.
- Use a trusted imaging utility such as balenaEtcher to write the ISO to the USB drive.
- Safely eject the USB drive after the writing process completes.
- Insert the USB into the target computer and boot from it using the system’s firmware boot menu.
- Choose the normal boot option or Graphical Fallback Mode if the normal graphical session does not display correctly.
How to Use Rescuezilla for Backup or Disk Cloning
- Boot the computer from the Rescuezilla USB drive.
- Wait for the live desktop and Rescuezilla application to load.
- Choose the required workflow: backup, restore or clone.
- Identify the source disk or partitions carefully.
- For backups, select a separate destination such as an external drive or supported network location.
- Review the summary screen before starting the operation.
- Wait for the task to complete and review the result before shutting down or restarting.
- Where practical, test restoration using a spare disk or test environment before relying on a backup for disaster recovery.
Rescuezilla is a disk imaging utility, not a substitute for a complete backup strategy. Maintain multiple copies, keep at least one copy separate from the source system and periodically test recovery.
Image Compatibility
The Rescuezilla project documents compatibility with images created by Clonezilla and several other imaging tools. Its release notes also list virtual disk formats supported through qemu-nbd, including:
- VirtualBox VDI
- VMware VMDK
- QEMU QCOW2
- Microsoft Hyper-V VHDx
- Raw DD/IMG images
- Images from Rescuezilla and selected other backup projects, with feature-specific limitations
Compatibility depends on the source image format and the operation you want to perform. Some formats may be supported for restore but not image exploration. Check the release notes before planning a migration or recovery around a specific image type.

Important Download and Safety Notes
- Download Rescuezilla from the official project website or its GitHub release page.
- Verify the ISO checksum or signature when the project publishes verification files.
- Keep a separate backup of important data before performing restore or clone operations.
- Do not assume the requested Noble ISO is available in v2.6.2; the release notes state that the Noble build is temporarily disabled.
- For hardware compatibility issues, try the project’s Graphical Fallback Mode or another official ISO variant.
- Consult the project’s FAQ and support forum if you encounter a device-specific problem.
