Archinstall 4.2 Stops Installing X.Org Packages for Wayland Profiles

Archinstall 4.2 has been released as the latest update to Arch Linux’s guided installer. This version addresses a security issue where encryption keyfiles could previously be written to an unencrypted root partition.
In addition to the fix, Archinstall 4.2 introduces several improvements. Systems using the mainline kernel now default to nvidia-open instead of nvidia-open-dkms, and X.Org packages are no longer installed for Wayland-based profiles. The update also enhances Plasma configuration with more granular options and adds a new Pacman settings submenu, allowing users to enable features like Color output and ParallelDownloads.
Other changes include a patch for the Plasma profile, improved handling of empty mountpoint inputs, and a rollback of the multi-select Enter key behavior to better match expected usage.
Archinstall 4.2 is expected to be included in the upcoming May 2026.05.01 Arch ISO. For users running older installation media, the tool can be updated easily before use by running pacman -S archinstall after booting the ISO.
