KDE Gear 26.04.1 Apps Collection Rolls Out, Here’s What’s New

KDE Gear 26.04.1 has been released as the first maintenance update for the KDE Gear 26.04 application suite, bringing bug fixes and refreshed translations across KDE applications, libraries, and plugins.

Among the notable updates, Akonadi—the framework used for KDE’s personal information management tools—fixes a crash in EntityTreeView that could occur when selecting multiple items. KCachegrind, KDE’s profiling visualization utility, now includes an additional bounds check to prevent out-of-bounds memory reads. Meanwhile, Konsole receives a fix that stops QTabBar from unintentionally closing tabs when users click the middle mouse button.

Dolphin, KDE’s file manager, also gains several improvements. Its information panel now properly displays the current selection when no file is being hovered over, and the search popup automatically hides when launching KFind. Developers also improved command-line construction by avoiding unnecessary string concatenation and reverted an earlier drag-and-drop behavior change in KItemListController related to full-row highlighting.

Kdenlive receives a large collection of fixes in this update, including corrections for macOS permissions and packaging, clip monitor behavior, project profile handling, subtitle-related crashes, transition previews, title-file archiving, proxy parameters, playlist clips, project recovery, and multiple timeline and bin-view issues. The release also resolves crashes triggered by switching transition views or closing the application directly from the welcome screen.

NeoChat, KDE’s Matrix messaging client, fixes issues involving spell checking, pinned message cleanup, room searching, forwarding compatibility with newer libQuotient versions, video visibility during playback, Android icon packaging, and a crash caused by link previews arriving after a room had already been deleted. Locale handling has also been improved by respecting the system’s preferred short time format.

Okular, KDE’s document viewer, introduces several hardening improvements for fax file handling, including safer allocation and initialization behavior. In addition, editor settings now support passing column numbers to the emacsclient command.

Several KDE PIM applications also receive updates. KOrganizer fixes todo creation when summaries are left empty and restores icons in month view, while Akonadi Calendar resolves black square artifacts appearing in KOrganizer’s todo interface. Eventviews improves agenda item text rendering, removes HTML markup from descriptions, and adjusts how today’s background is displayed in month view.

Finally, KTorrent fixes problems with logging plugin filters, incorrect peer IDs, and appdata descriptions. At the same time, libktorrent now avoids attempting TCP connections when the client is configured to use only the uTP protocol.

Most KDE Gear 26.04.1 apps will soon be available on Flathub and Snap Store. Rolling release distributions can expect the app collection to be added to their respective distros’ repositories in the coming days and weeks.
