Proxmox VE 9.1.1 Download (ISO Installer)
Download the Proxmox VE 9.1-1 (9.1.1) ISO installer. Built on Debian 13.2 “Trixie” with Linux kernel 6.17.2, it includes LXC containers from OCI images, QEMU 10.1.2, ZFS 2.3.4 and Ceph Squid 19.2.3, with requirements and installation steps.

Proxmox Virtual Environment
Proxmox VE is an open-source virtualization platform that runs KVM virtual machines and LXC containers from one web interface, with clustering, storage and backup features built in.
About Proxmox VE 9.1
Proxmox Virtual Environment (Proxmox VE) is a complete, open-source platform for server virtualization. It combines the KVM hypervisor and LXC containers with software-defined storage and networking, high availability clustering and a web-based management console, all on a Debian Linux base.
Proxmox describes version 9.1 as the first point release since the major 9.0 update and as a release dedicated to refinement. It is based on Debian 13.2 “Trixie” and uses the newer Linux kernel 6.17.2 as its stable default. The ISO is named 9.1-1, which many users write as 9.1.1.
It is a popular free alternative to commercial hypervisors for home labs, small businesses and training environments. Our software downloads section lists more virtualization and infrastructure tools.

Key Features
LXC from OCI Images
Create LXC containers from OCI images. This is a technology preview.
TPM State in qcow2
Store virtual TPM state in the qcow2 format.
Nested Virtualization Flag
A new vCPU flag gives finer control over nested virtualization.
Better SDN Status
Enhanced status reporting for software-defined networking.
KVM and LXC
Run virtual machines and system containers side by side.
Storage Choices
Use ZFS, Ceph and other storage options with built-in management.

System Requirements
| Component | Typical guidance |
|---|---|
| CPU | 64-bit Intel or AMD processor with virtualization support (Intel VT-x or AMD-V) enabled in the BIOS |
| Memory | At least 2 GB for the host, plus the memory your VMs and containers need |
| Storage | SSD recommended; more disks if you use ZFS or Ceph |
| Network | At least one Gigabit network card |
| USB drive | A USB flash drive to create the installer |
Needs grow with your workloads. Check the official Proxmox VE documentation for current recommendations.
Installation Guide
- Download the ISO and verify its checksum.
- Write the ISO to a USB drive with a tool such as Rufus or balenaEtcher. This erases the drive.
- Enable virtualization in the BIOS, then boot the server from the USB drive.
- Choose Install Proxmox VE (Graphical), accept the license and select the target disk and file system.
- Set your country and time zone, a root password, an email address and the network settings (a static IP and hostname).
- Finish the installation and reboot. Remove the USB drive.
- From another computer, open
https://SERVER-IP:8006and sign in asroot.
After installing
Without a subscription, switch from the enterprise repository to the no-subscription repository so updates work, then run apt update and apt full-upgrade. Plan backups early: see our Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1.1 download, which includes the Veeam Plugin for Proxmox VE, and our Veeam guides.
Upgrading to Proxmox VE 9.1
- From 9.0: upgrade with
aptor the web interface. Proxmox recommends the enterprise repository for the most stable experience. - From 8.x: follow the official Upgrade from 8 to 9 guide. Proxmox VE 8.4 security support ran until August 2026.
- Ceph Reef clusters: upgrade Ceph to Squid first, then Proxmox VE.
Always back up your VMs and configuration before a major upgrade.
