VirtualBox has released version 7.2.8, the fourth maintenance update in the 7.2 series, bringing a mix of compatibility improvements, bug fixes, and performance enhancements.

This update introduces initial support for Linux kernel versions 6.19 and 7.0 on the host side, along with improved guest time accounting on Linux hosts. It also includes fixes for RHEL 10.1 and 10.2 kernels for both hosts and guests, and adds compatibility with the UEK9 kernel on Oracle Linux 9. The Linux installation process has been refined as well, with optimizations that speed up rcvboxdrv/rcvboxadd setup and overall deployment.

A notable change affects Linux Guest Additions on newer kernels. Oracle has deprecated the out-of-tree vboxvideo module for Linux 7.0 and later. Users are now encouraged to use VMSVGA graphics or rely on the in-kernel or distribution-provided vboxvideo module, while the legacy version remains available for older kernels.

Wayland-related issues have also been addressed, including a fix for incorrect mouse cursor behavior on Ubuntu 25.10. Clipboard-sharing problems between Wayland guests and Windows hosts have been resolved, along with an issue where the last character failed to paste into the Windows clipboard.

On the virtualization side, a VMM bug that could cause a Guru Meditation error (VERR_IEM_IPE_4) has been fixed, and NAT Network handling has been improved to resolve internal DNS accessibility problems. Additional platform-specific fixes include resolving a DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER blue screen in Windows 11 guests and addressing UEFI secure boot certificate update errors.

Other fixes include correcting a DMI issue that prevented Windows from populating certain registry keys when BIOS version values were set to 0.0, as well as resolving a shutdown crash on FreeBSD 16.0 when multiple devices were attached to an LSI Logic SAS controller.

VirtualBox 7.2.8 is available for download from the official site, and users are advised to install the matching Extension Pack after upgrading to ensure full functionality.
