What Is Omnissa Horizon 8?
Omnissa Horizon 8 is a virtual desktop (VDI) and published-application platform. A Horizon Client authenticates to a Connection Server, which brokers the session to a virtual desktop or app running the Horizon Agent — the core design described in Omnissa’s Horizon 8 overview. It is the same product that was called VMware Horizon: Broadcom spun its end-user computing business out as Omnissa in May 2024, and 2412 completes the move to Omnissa branding.

Horizon Universal, Enterprise Plus, Standard Plus, Apps Universal and Apps Standard. Licensing runs through Horizon Edge (next-gen control plane) or Horizon Cloud Connector (first-gen).

Activate with the new Omnissa key from Customer Connect. Existing keys still work, but Horizon Console enters restricted mode if you skip the switch past the 60-day window.

Read the prerequisites
Review Omnissa KB 6000681 and Upgrading to Omnissa Horizon 8 2412 and Later before touching a Connection Server. Allow extra time if you are coming from a VMware-branded Horizon version.

Check compatibility and back up
Confirm vSphere 7.0+ and Windows Server 2016+, and check the Interoperability Matrix. Downgrading Connection Servers is not supported, so take snapshots or backups first and validate in a UAT environment.

Get your new Omnissa license key
Term and perpetual customers can download the new key from Customer Connect. A banner gives you 60 days to switch before Horizon Console enters restricted mode.

Upgrade the Connection Servers
Upgrade every Connection Server in the same maintenance window; all servers in a pod must be online. It is an in-place upgrade run from the installer. Upgrade App Volumes Managers first if you use them.

Apply the 2412 LDAP registry fix
Omnissa lists a known issue (HZN-3627): on fresh 2412 installs and upgrades to 2412, two LDAP registry keys land in the parent folder instead of Parameters. Create them at the correct path and set both values (the parent-folder entries can be deleted).

Upgrade agents and clients
Once every Connection Server is on 2412, upgrade the Horizon Agent on gold images and full clones, then the Horizon Clients. Uninstall the App Volumes Agent before upgrading the Horizon Agent if it is installed.
